OSGATA Launches Farmer Travel Fund!

Donate here to the Farmer Travel Fund!

On 12/30/11 OSGATA launched a “Farmer Travel Fund” in an effort to send family farmers to represent their interests at a court hearing in New York on January 31, 2012.  This fund was established after the announcement that Judge Naomi Buckwald would hear oral arguments to determine if the lawsuit filed by organic farmers against Monsanto will go to court. We’re happy to announce that we have successfully funded 4 Farmer trips to NYC. The 4 farmers represent Wood Prairie Farm in Maine, Wild Garden Seed in Oregon, Stephens Farms in Kansas and Fedco Seeds from Vermont. Thank you to all the generous donors and for your commitment to organic seed! OSGATA will continue to collect donations to the Farmer Travel Fund for future travel expenses for related events.

  1. Be GREAT to have a million organic person march on Manhatten on Jan. 31, 2012 in support of these 83 families. Organic Occupy Manhatten… Organic Occupy D.C…. The organic farmers have TRUTH & INTEGRITY to back them. Another thought, can Monsanto be sued for creating a monopoly on farming?

  2. Is there a petition or anything one can sign? I would be happy to lend my support wherever you go. 300,000 farmers sounds like a lot, but against Monsanto one can use all the support one can get! Godspeed!

  3. Hello and thanks! My contribution to the farmer travel fund is on the way. I operate a certified organic farm in western PA surrounded by conventional farms. I’d love to join this legal action but am happy to contribute a little to others who have gotten this underway. Whatever you need. Keep asking.

This is a major action and I am so happy to see it get this far. We are also facing another threat to our organic farm that’s coming from unconventional drilling for gas in the Marcellus Shale below us. Even our organic certifying agency is being timid about recognizing this threat. Our farm and our case for a moratorium of this “fracking” form of energy extraction can be found on the home page of our website. http://paradisegardensandfarm.com/

So many battles! But this is a good one you have taken on. Thanks again!

  4. @akananda and @ckaren: those are two awesome ideas. It’s too late to do it by the end of January, but this summer/fall would be great. And to do it in an election year cycle would send a message about what ‘the people’ REALLY care about…

  5. Here is a petition to sign.

  6. I’m a member of CT NOFA and of course interested in the jihad against Montsanto. Please add me to your mailing list.

  7. Please add me to your mailing list also. I’ll circulate everything to my circles, including Occupy Bellingham.

Thank you for doing this work.
